Based off a novel from a supposedly true story on a bbs, Densha Otoko was a phenomenon in Japan. This Jdorama aired in 2005 following the success of a compilation novel of what the real Densha Otoko said on an actual bbs.
Tsuyoshi Yamada is a hopeless case. He is a computer and anime nerd, or he’s better known as an otaku. One day after a horrible day at work he meets a beautiful office lady on a train. A drunken old man was making a disturbance on the train and Yamada stood up against the old man. The young office lady was grateful and asked him for an address so that she could send him a gift. Yamada proceeds to the bbs to tell the people of his meeting. A couple days in waiting he finds a package for him from the young office lady with HERMES cups in them. What will this hopeless case do? Will the people on the bbs be able to help him? Is this his chance for love? (continue reading…)
Hello! Morning
by Chris on Mar.12, 2007, under Reviews, TV Shows
If you are looking for a funny Japanese variety show that pops up on the internet more than any other, then Hello! Morning is for you. This show comes on once a week on TV Tokyo. Primarily made up of the JPop music group, Morning Musume, Hello! Morning has skits, games, and competitions for food. As we all know, food is always good. Besides games, they have guests and do certain specials depending on the season or holiday going on. Guests also appear on the show ranging from comedians to magicians. The performers of Hello! Project often times perform their latest single at the end of the show.
It was a pure accident that I’ve come across Hello! Morning since my first viewing way back in 2000 or 2002. Hello! Morning was what tuned my ears onto the music group Morning Musume. The show in itself was a hilarious host of facial expressions, laughs, and situations that put all of the members of Morning Musume and guests into embarrassment. The show has a cutesy look to it and has many bright colors on the set. The dialog is great, but many non Japanese speaking enthusiasts can laugh at the actions and the expressions of the cast.
I give this show an 8.2 out of 10. Very funny, reading subtitles makes the show more enjoyable, but a few lucky episodes make it enjoyable without dialog.
